Something is vibrating in the air - an electromagnetic wave distinctly perceived in each of its elements: rhythm, melody, empathy, and telluric motions ready to unhinge the subsoil with a propelling thrust that radiates from below to manifest itself in sunlight.
In the swirling flow of this 2023 annus mirabilis of Brescia-Bergamo, designated Capitals of Culture in Italy, creativity and energy found the ideal dimension to express themselves with the impetus typical of any avant-garde expression and artistic movement, without genre, boundaries, or filters. Around this new genetic code, Rebirth has thought to blend together independent musical paths, which were valid but otherwise fragmented. into a collective and identity project called "Brixia Sonora", a tribute to the Brescian music scene in its many facets and declinations.
An image of a city and its atmosphere. A photograph that may be imperfect, potentially blurry, yet alive and authentic. Pulsating. Even when too bright due to flashy colors or too dark due to deeper nocturnal shades. But the shot is all here, concentrated in a collection that is a babel of sounds and a short circuit of universes.
Incorporating multiple inspirations and influences: noise, minimalism, breaking the mold; weaves and beats, polyrhythm and polymetry, glitch music and organic music; and yet electronic fractals, jazz effusions, house beats, Balearic sunsets, post-metropolitan downtempo, other forms of rock. A cocktail of hybridizations that, under the direction of Rebirth, finds a balance on the edge of the unexpected, despite its diversity, infinite facets, and multiple identities.
Exploring the musical landscapes of the protagonists: Giovanni Battagliola, Paolo Cattaneo, Chris Benoit, Eke, Luca Formentini, Kick, Alessandro Pedretti, Corrado Saija e Giorgio Presti, Maniscalco, Materie, Matteo Gamba, Mattia Fontana. Solo projects, bands, collectives, DJs, and producers - a crossroads of generations and multitudes within which everyone has carved out their own space.
"Brixia Sonora" symbolizes a period of dialogue and exchange - from exchanging ideas to sharing passions, syncopated beats and new impulses, leading to the evolution of what is yet to come.
And so here is Brescia again, a neuralgic accomplice in the background: a city, the protagonists say, that has made great strides in recent years, but which still has potential to grow and emerge. Freeing itself from isolation and centralizing itself to different geographies and dynamics, the bar of quality has been raised beyond the comfort zone of standardized and repetitive formulas to explore alternative models of research and synergistic expression. In clubs, bars, theaters, and public places, as well as in new, unconventional spaces open to diverse uses. Spaces that are versatile, easily accessible, inclusive places, receptive to novelties with sensitivity and an international outlook.
In the name of music, art, and beauty: hence the decision to use as the album cover Emilio Isgrò's work, "L'Incancellabile Vittoria", an installation located at the "Station FS" of the Brescia underground. This work represents the Vittoria Alata, one of the most iconic, evocative, and symbolic pieces of the city. Isgrò, an artist of international fame and one of the great innovators of the second post-war period, revives the work through erasure, the unmistakable key of his conceptual research. This is a way to oppose common sense, not with a destructive action, but rather with a pro-life spirit. What is canceled does not get erased, but instead gets new lifeblood in innovative, unexpected, and contemporary forms.
"Brixia Sonora" is therefore an encounter with doubt, a predisposition to evolution and improvement, and an opportunity to question oneself. It is about all this and more. As the vinyl slips under the needle, the mind is taken on a journey. Driven by the groove, the music and its role as a magnifying glass on the world, inside and outside, this is a propitious moment to put away the debris and collaborate to construct a future.
