Originally released in 2016 as a limited double CD, REBIRTH 10 marked a milestone celebration of the label's 10th Anniversary.
Curated by the maestro himself, Larry Heard, aka Mr. Fingers, this groundbreaking compilation showcased the essence of Rebirth Records through some of its pivotal releases from its first decade. Now, Rebirth 10 is set to make its vinyl debut on a limited numbered double edition plus insert on April 20th, exclusively for Record Store Day (available from May 6th in all other vinyl stores).
Founded in 2006 by the visionary Daniele 'Shield' Contrini, Rebirth Records has seamlessly evolved into a beacon of innovation within the independent electronic music label landscape.
Reflecting on the label's genesis, Shield recalls, “The first release was a record that had been nestled in my bag for years. I pondered, why not bring it back to life with a new remix and a vocal version? And that's exactly what I did. When 'Finest Dream' by And If featuring Alison Limerick was ready, remixed by Silicone Soul, it marked the inception of Rebirth's sonic journey.” Shield continues, "The philosophy behind the label finds its roots in the past, forging a connection between the soul of a song and the warmth of a melody, then infusing them with a contemporary sound. I'm always on the hunt for something timeless, a sound that will still resonate in 20 or 40 years from now."
This album, a testament to Rebirth's inaugural decade, features iconic releases like NUfrequency feat. Ben Onono’s ‘Fallen Hero’ (Motor City Drum Ensemble Remix), Yotam Avni's 'Pentimento' (Joe Claussell Remix), Butch & C.Vogt's 'The Infamous' (Robytek Vs Shield Re-Edit), Tevo Howard feat. Tracey Thorn's 'Without Me' (Marcus Worgull Dub / Dixon Edit), A:xus' ‘Suite Disappointment’ (Motorcitysoul Remix), Corrado Bucci's 'Open Your Eyes' (Andrés Remix), and original music and remixes from Larry Heard himself.
Speaking about the celebratory compilation, Shield expresses, "Who better than Larry Heard could select and mix it for us? He delivered a mix that embodies the soul and the diverse facets of the label. Larry is a legendary producer, a pioneer who etched pages in House Music history, profoundly shaping our musical journey." He adds, "The album cover is crafted by Emil Schult, who created special images for the occasion. Visiting his studio in Dusseldorf and soaking in his Kraftwerk experience was a truly unforgettable moment. I'm genuinely thrilled that they both agreed to work on this project."
Fast forward to the present day, with the vinyl market resurging, Shield decided to release this special album in the format he cherishes most, setting the stage for the label's imminent Twentieth Anniversary in 2026. A collector's record, a must-have, and an auditory treasure, following in the footsteps of the monumental albums 'Ciao Italia' and 'Brixia Sonora,' propelling Rebirth Records into a new era of cultural and intellectual enrichment.
